Dude, Where’s My Car (2000)

Jesse and Chester, two bumbling stoners, wake up one morning from a night of partying and cannot remember where they parked their car, hence the title, which prompts them on a journey to find it and along the way, they encounter a variety of people who include their angry girlfriends Wilma and Wanda, whose house they trashed, an angry street gang, a trans-sexual stripper hounding them for a suitcase full of stolen money, a cult of alien seeking fanatics, and a group of aliens in human form looking for a mystical device that could save or destroy the world – what is there not to like?

I have to admit it, the plot, if you can even call it that, is quite frankly, ridiculous but the truth is, I love this movie and to this day, after 50-60 viewings, I cannot really tell you why, it might just be that I am a fan of brainless comedy.

Let’s get it straight, do not and I repeat, do not even assume that there is any sort of intelligence that will need to be applied in this movie at any point, it just isn’t going to happen.  However, rest assured that for the distinct lack of anything that would require the use of any brain-power, the movie more than makes up for it in the form of some ridiculously, hilarious scenes (try ordering Chinese food in with a striaght face next time), brilliantly stupid dialogue and some phrases and one–liners that no matter how hard you try, you will just not be able to stop saying or trying to engineer into a conversation, which sadly I still do.

The success of this movie in my mind is purely down to the abilities of Seann William Scott as Chester and Ashton Kutcher as Jesse.  They know that most of you will think this is ridiculously stupid, so take that stupidity level up a couple of notches and somehow manage to make us chuckle with the material they’ve been given.

It’s a totally fun, light hearted movie, filled with many moments of comic genius, it’s basically pure slapstick throughout and you may notice that I haven’t even tried to create any plot specifics to fewer to and that is for the simple reason that I can’t.  This movie is basically like a sketch show and an extremely funny one at that!

This film is far from Dumb & Dumber, that is on another level to most in the genre – but I can guarantee, this will make you laugh, even when you don’t want to or feel you should, I never thought I’d be doubled up with laughter in my living room watching a guy try to act macho, by french kissing another guy, but I confess, it did happen!
